Description
About West Knoxville, Knoxville, Tennessee: This location in Knoxville is growing like a weed. Because of recent residential and business expansions, West Knoxville contains both of today's growth and yesterday's countryside topography. My acrylic painting represents the latter.
In the area of Kingston Pike and Cedar Bluff Road, in West Knoxville, are three hayfields. This is one of those fields. As you can see, the Hampton Inn Hotel can be seen beyond the red house, with a slight visual of businesses to the viewer's left. What cannot be seen from this perspective is the I-40 Interstate. Westbound I-40 heads towards Nashville, TN; eastbound goes in the direction of the Smoky Mountains and Asheville, NC.
Back to the painting: One-quarter mile either direction past this hayfield can be found shopping centers containing restaurants, stores, theaters, and other types of commercial enterprises - not to mention residential areas. But all around West Knoxville are still traces of the countryside. I painted this representation because one day these hayfields will become part of today's continued expansion. Painting representations of locations like this one is a way of preserving what's left of "the good ol' days." This is our history; and, though the landscape changes, we can remember "from whence we came."
My acrylic painting was done on a 16"x20" canvas... hope you enjoy the work!
